Maryam Natural Horsebutt
So I married a boots freak. It could be worse. Sure, there is a lot of bending forward on nature walks, and having to be a photographer on portrait mode, but it’s given me a new fun hobby and an appreciation for well made shoes. I got these boots, the Sagara officer boot in natural horsebutt, as a wedding gift from my husband. I said I do, and then “I’ll do the dome”. Married one week and I put these babies on for the first time. I’d never felt more beautiful and more loved. He designed then just for me, with a cork and leather sole. I’m a sommelier and there’s now cork under my feet! We’re off to a good start. So I got on the plane from San Diego and landed in my new life in Split, Croatia with these boots on. They were HARD to break in. They are heavy. These boots are a symbol of the new life I am living. I had to wear thick wool socks in September so I wouldn’t get blisters. I had to remind myself to cry in the shower because I don’t speak the language. They came and went. The blisters and the emotional showers. My boots freak husband, my new boots and I took morning walks to the Pazar (Croatian daily farmers market). We got coffee daily in them. We spilled wine on them. We had a surgery in them. We bought flowers in them. We made new friends in them. We scored a new job in them. We traveled to four countries in them. It rained, hailed, and shone sunshine on them. I saw them change and get softer, darker and more beautiful with each passing day. I’m new to this world, but I GET it? Happiness starts within your sole.
