C.F. Stead Leaf Unicorn Elk
Warhorse… a fitting name for a wild pair of boots. As an intrepid hiker and urban explorer, I’ve worn these absolute beasts through thick and thin, five days a week for the past six months. This unique pair have handled life’s journeys with a roaring gusto: pounding city pavements, climbing waterfalls deep in the mountains, slogging across muddy creek beds and trekking through the deep, dark underground tunnels of abandoned stormwater drains. As many of these expeditions took place under wet or muddy conditions, I took to cleaning and waxing these boots every two months, brushing them off weekly or as needed. C.F. Stead’s Unicorn Elk ages in an incredibly interesting way, the mottled olive-tan hues taking on a darker shade of brown after being waterproofed, then lightening up again in friction areas as the wax wears off over time, sharing properties with both nubuck and waxed flesh. The results of these explorations have unearthed themselves in a gorgeous patina; every crease, roll and discolouration of the grain simply adding to the character of a dearly special pair of boots. What an adventure it has been!
