Horween Color 8 Chromexcel
Well, the dome is done. Six months came and went, and boy was it a hell of an experience. Domming these Color 8 Vibergs, believe it or not, was not my first choice. I originally planned to wear the heck out of some Natty Horsebutt Sagaras. However, sometime late September I had a last second idea to try and do something a bit different. Color 8 is criminally underrated, especially when it comes to Brooklyn Clothing’s stellar make-up…unstructured toe box and all. So, with only a few days left until the start, I hopped on the interwebs, snagged a pair, and had them sent rush delivery all the way from Canada to Atlanta, Georgia. I must say a better choice has not been made. These boots have been my companions on hundreds of miles of hiking over the last six months. They’ve seen craggy hill climbs, muddy river walks…and lest we forget…precarious treks across soggy wooden bridges hanging high above the Chattahoochee river. They were my footwear of choice for my best bud’s bachelor trip in the North Georgia mountains, where we spent hours smoking cigars and hanging out by the fireside. No lie, to this day if you give them a good sniff you can still smell the bonfire smoke. I also wore them to his rehearsal dinner where I had the honor of giving the obligatory best man speech…which went over surprisingly well given how nervous I was beforehand. To give credit where credit is due…having a pair of good boots on while facing a crowd of about one hundred people certainly didn’t hurt. A few months later they were on my feet when I saw my parents for the first time in over two years…thanks Covid. Even my pops loved them. He’s an old Irishman who also happens to be an old hippie…I’ve got pics of him backpacking across the states circa 1974…full beard intact, a nice thick flannel and a pair of old beat-up Red Wings on. So, hearing him talk about my boots and how they reminded him of when he was young was a pretty special experience I won’t ever forget.
