Horween Natural Essex
The first pair of boots I ever had made for me. The first week of the first dome I was back home on the West Coast and was able to stop in at Baker’s and get measured up for the first boots I was going to have made just for myself. I’d wanted a pair of sturdy chukkas that would suit my work needs for a long time, and had decided that Wesco seemed to jave what I needed. I walked in there and asked Kyle if I could get a pair of Wesco chukkas in navy W&C and he got right to texting Chris who let him know… no, unfortunately they wouldnt be able to do that at the moment, but they did have some natural Essex on hand. Since Id never actually had a natural leather boot before, I said why not, and let those dice roll. My intentions had always been that if I was going to dome boots, it would be a leather that most people hadnt seen, and would at least be useful in some way to help others in the community get an idea of what it would do. So doming natural Essex boots was a litte… eh. I didnt feel like Id be contributing anythign worthwhile to the show nerd herd. but Im glad I did. Because it really is just something remarkable to see leather just completely change in fromt of your eyes like that. Through some hard work, and a bit of care and attention, these things got me through some of the toughest work Ive experienced in my career, and kept me excited to see what theyd keep doing. Im grateful for what they did for me and what theyre going to continue to do. I may not have gotten my dream work boot, but I definitely got something special.
