I wanted something dressier than my Brass boots to wear to the clinic- I'd stopped into Alden DC and put my name down for a few models and shortly afterwards I got an email about this pair! I went in to try them on and 15 minutes later I was on my way home to take pictures of them for the dome!
I tried them on in-store. I knew the Grant last was generally TTS but I wanted to double check because I am 11C HTB. Glad I stuck with TTS!
I had dropped by Alden DC to check out some loafers and had inquired about the medallion boot- the staff member helping me took my email address and told me that I would get a notification the next time my size was in stock
Worn these to work at the clinic, concerts and performances, apple picking, photography gigs, everywhere! They've seen lots of rain and snow as well Worn with a lot of denim, tweed, twill, corduroy, and canvas
These have faded a good amount because I've had to dry them from their continued exposure to rain and snow- just some time in front of a window. Break in was minimal, pretty comfortable out of the box. I have had to wipe down with vinegar a few times to prevent salt stains in the winter, and I've applied Bick4 a few times as well. Lots of brushing!!!
Very glad I took this TTS. It aligns with my instep so that the facings are mostly parallel thankfully! I can wear it with thin or thick socks, just have to readjust lacing. I have a bit of toe splay on my right foot but only becomes an issue after 8+ hours of walking continuously which is rare.
The proportion of the cap toe, vamp space, and distance between facings and cap toe are phenomenal. Brogues are clean and consistent on both! While the commando sole isn't my favorite, it's not bad at all and is perfectly serviceable. May resole to leather but that will be in a while.
It's fine? Not as slippery as leather soles but not as grippy as actual lug soles. Very solid everyday situation. Comfort is fine as well.
Alden shell is absolutely expensive and I very likely won't buy another pair at retail. What I can say is that they do things really well (most of the time) and when it works, it Really works.
