I wanted to try a makeup with a light leather, just to see how they would patina. I also wanted to try a captoe on the Jobmaster style because I love to sturdiness of the makeup and wanted to add a little bit of refinement to it. I found this on the seconds page and knew it was the pair for me.
I stopped in the shop and my wife convinced me to try on a pair, and I walked out with that pair of Jobmasters. This pair is my second. It fits a bit wide in the toebox and narrow in the heel, perfect for my foot shape
Saw it online and stopped in the shop a few days later, Chris was awesome as always and a pleasure to do business with
Mostly during 3+ mile walks with my wife, out on the town and in to the office. I also did some yardwork with them, but they look too pretty for that. Being in Washington, these spent a majority of their time getting wet in some way or another. The lining made them just fine as snow boots, just add a nice pair of Darn Tough boot socks. These have been through a lot with me. Becoming an urban chicken farmer and going back to college to get an engineering degree. Lots of new challenges and these have taken everything in stride (hah!).
The Burlap is a light nubuck leather, so its patina potential is extensive. I started with a waterproof spray and brushed them after every wear. After month 5 I applied a thin layer of Blackrock and they polished up nicely with that. Given the soft hand of the leather, break in was minimal, within 3 wears they were almost completely broken in. Given the lining, they aren't as breathable as the unlined Jobmasters that I have, but these were very comfortable from day one. I almost exclusively wore these with a pair of jeans that I bought to patina at the same time, and the indigo transfer really makes these unique.
With the wider toebox and narrow heel, these are boots that I can, and have, wear for a full day and fall asleep in. Superbly comfortable and supportive throughout the arch
I love the design of the Jobmaster pattern, no frills, just good strong construction. The addition of the dress captoe makes these slightly more formal, but in a rugged sort of way. These are Goodyear welted and not truly stitchdown constructed like my other pair, and I can't tell a difference aside from looks. I've worn these hard for the past months and they show no sign of needing any maintenance for years yet. The stitching is solid, the leather is very thick and sturdy, the sole is hard wearing. All in all, a solid boot
These soles will last a few years before needing a resole, although the treads are not very deep. On gravel or concrete they grip well, but on slick surfaces caution is advised.
I am a diehard fan of the Jobmaster style and these are a solid choice for any collection.
