Oak Street Bootmakers
These are my suburban parent shoes. Daycare drop offs, bus stops, groceries, swim class, and now dog walks. If I don't have to literally run, there is a strong chance I'm wearing these.
The leather is very interesting. The heel is as supple as can be, but the vamp has kind of set almost in a shell that's the shape of my foot. You can literally tap on the rolls and they don't really give. I'm wondering if that's the effect of the "hot salt soak" that Oak Street describes. And the rolls... Just so unique. The roughout is taking great patina.
Metatarsal Mafia approved toe box. You want this toe box in your life. I did take a second to dial in the fit. They were a bit floppy at first because I was afraid to go down to the last hole on the strap because it made them a bit too tight to slip on. I went to the last hole and used a shoe horn to put them on for about a week and then the fit just locked. It's good barefoot and even better with socks. With the footbed settled on that squishy sole these are just perfect. I took a 12, but I always size up so feel free to ignore me.
They take a running leap over the line of function over form to the point that they are actually cool. I get compliments on them regularly. The wide toe box and narrow heel are just perfect, especially for a slip on. And their minimalist construction compliments the last. They are exactly what you see, and that's what makes them great. The finishing is solid, though I did actually chip the flare out leather on the toe when I kicked a curb. Never seen a leather chip before. And I'll say this, the factory that clicks the leather for the country loafer is the best.
No complaints. It's perfectly soft and holding up fine.
You want these in your life. It's an unexpected design, absurdly comfortable, and a classic leather that will quickly become unique to only your feet with some unreal rolls. Get some.
