Drew's Boots
6" Contractor Captoe
Modified 55 Last
US Men's Brannock: 14E

Stock boots.
This is a wide roomy last with a high instep. The sizing runs larger than US made PNWs. You might have to go down 1 to 1.5 below your brannock size.
Drew's Boots
My podiatrist suggested that I wear shoes with more arch support and a wider toe box. I wanted something in leather for casual office wear that had a classic heritage look and provided the support I was looking for. These were priced very well and available immediately. The 6-inch height is the perfect amount of ankle support for moderately challenging hikes. It also works well for me for the local winter weather.
I followed the sellers recommendations based on sizing down from my brannock size
It was OK. They did not actually have in stock the model I originally purchased. I accepted their offer to replace it with a model that was available. The shipping was quicker than I expected.
I have been wearing them pretty much daily. Most of the time for my office job. I can't imagine they get much wear and tear while I'm at my desk, other than scuffs from chair casters. Much of the wear is because I regularly go on walks in them. I have worn them for a couple of day hikes.
The leather has aged beautifully for the most part. It comes looking light, dry, and dusty out of the box and darkens with age. The clicking and hide quality was average. The outer quarter on the left boot has loose grain and looks quite bad. The same panel on the opposite boot is exceptional. Breakin was uneventful. I was experimenting with conditioners on this particular pair and tried a number of products. I used Saphir Universal Creme and wiped them down when new. Then, I occasionally applied Jim Green Leather Balm l. I use Lincoln wax in Neutral to shine them.
The last runs quite large. My brannock is 14E, and these are 13D. The fit is close. I can not wear heavy weight socks with these. But, 13.5 would be too large. They are very comfortable. There is a lot of leather under and around foot so it keeps getting more comfortable by the day. I have not had problems having on all day even on long days.
The build is solid. They are overbuilt like tanks, but there is scope for improvement. The design is great. The toecaps are very nice, very well formed and hard. They have a vegtan toebox, and with the toecap, it feels like a wooden box. It's much harder than the loggers. One improvement could be to have one row of stitches only through the midsole, like they have on the Drew's Loggers line of boots, instead of having both rows of stitchdown stitches go through the whole stack. Some other problems I had were loose speed hooks, loose grain on one quarter, and some Stitching holes. Small stuff. I was struck by how pretty the heel stack and shape was. It definitely punches way above its price tag.
It's a bit hard under foot. Once your feet get used to it though it's normal and very comfortable.
Not much to say. It's a basic heel block without any lugs. It just fine.
The finishing is a bit rough. But for the price and the features they have, it is an easy recommend to buy. The toecap makes it look very smart and casual. Something similar from the US brands would cost double or more. So it's a no-brainer to get them if you are interested.
