I hadn't tried out the Floyd last, and haven't had a moc toe in my collection for a while. I wanted something I could beat up a bit- nothing crazy, mostly just hikes and casual home projects. Saw a pair go on sale over the summer and decided to grab one!
Stuck with GS recommendation of 0.5 down from Brannock, same as Leo. As a low volume narrow width person I was a little anxious but the fit is solid.
Ordered online from GS after I saw they went on sale for Labor Day- arrived super quick as per usual
Lots of casual outings- bars, hikes, concerts, etc. They've seen a fair amount of rain, snow, creeks, rivers.
Break in wasn't bad at all. Got some grain break on a few panels but with CXL I'm not expecting anything to stay smooth. No gauges thankfully, just scuffs from hikes and whatnot. Lots of brushing as well, one treatment of Bick4
Great room in the toe box, I can wear with thin or thick socks (thicker is better). The facings do come close together but they're not touching and they're mostly parallel which I consider a win.
I wasn't a huge fan of the brass boot or Floyd last when they initially released- it felt like a departure from the "business casual" vibe early Grant Stone had- not to say that it's bad, it just wasn't my thing. But these have really grown on me and I have come to really appreciate the pattern and last. I will be dyeing these black because styling color 8 CXL has proven difficult for me and I just think the black suits the pattern/last combo more.
Haven't seen much wear on the sole so it seems plenty durable- not the best grip in wet conditions but it's also not a dedicated wet weather sole so I'm not complaining.
If you've been hesitant about trying Brass boots I would absolutely recommend- I got a second pair in the snuff reverse kudu that I'm really looking forward to wearing. Insane value at the labor day price as well.
