They fit like a glove like that. My right pinky gets a little pressure after long days of wear but this is already getting better after two weeks and will probably go away soon
Red Wing Berlin
I made my journey through the world of wellmade footwear in the last couple years but never tried one of the OG's: the 875 classic moc I wanted to proof myself that it does not always have to be mto handwelted crazy leather 1000$ boots. Stick with the basics and see how far we can go
Compared to other footwear and the help of Red Wing berlin
The order process with Red Wing Berlin was very straight forward. Purchased the boots online, payd for them and sent an inquiry for the custom resole.
Like all my boots in the past I wear these to every occasion. To work, running errands or visiting friends & family. I walk the dog in them and took them to at least one short trip in the two weeks of the dome already. Omly for sports or when I wore them all day and leave the house again I switch into something else.
The leather is still very close to the first day but starts to crease, stretch and got much softer. When I come home I brush them off and put some shoe trees in them but not every day. The break in is very managable and besides a little pressure on my right pinky and that the double leather midsole still needs some time to conform to my feet they are already a great all day wear boot.
The 23 last does not suit me as amazing as the munsoon last but only issue is a little pressure on my right pinky after long days of wear. Besides that I think there could not be a better fit.
The iconic moc toe design wad always great to look at for me, because I wear heavy denim and flanells a lot and I prefer the look of a bulkier shoe with that. They feel very substancial and I love that the beckman soles give them a more refined look. The double leather midsole and stacked heel makes them also a little more serious and there are no flaws in qc or the finishing.
As I said the visuals of the new soles are something that makes them a totally different boot. I had wedge soles in the past and liked the comfort but not how slippery they feel when walking on wet or smooth surfaces. Thats something the beckman soles do better without being as loud as some lugs.
Good grip and comfort
I got into better footwear couple years ago with some Iron Rangers 8111 after wearing vans and chucks for maybe 20 years. After these I tried, bought and sold countless models and makers from other Red Wings over higher end handwelted made in japan boots and also some mto's. I now found my way back to the "og" and wonder why I never had some 875s in the past. I may got caught in the chase of something better, newer, more rare and forgot how great these boots already are. I am looking forward to wear them the next months.
