Nicks RTS page unicorn find!
Daily drivers for everyday work doing commercial construction layout. They spent a few weeks in dirt but majority were on plywood decks covered in rebar then concrete slabs. Taken on two hikes in my free time in north georgia / middle tennessee. rain, snow, or shine these boots were on foot.
As the waxed outer layer wore away, the fuzzy dark brown interior started to reveal. i strongly believe waxed flesh is the best option for work boots due to the fact you can reward the outside with otter wax or similar product and they will look like new but when the leather is worn and unconditioned scratches and smaller cuts blend in pretty well and have a lot more forgiveness compared to smooth leather.
Not my first time wearing 55 last so it's tried and true in my book and is comfortable for long days in feet. one note i will say is the toe box does not like to be creased in this lace to toe model as the extra layers of leather in nicks pattern does not provide much volume on the toe and once well broke in if i kneeled down and bent the leather toe box its would squeeze my toenails and end up pretty uncomfortable. the right boot has developed a serious squeak in every step and is very annoying.
Heritage lace to toe pattern is an excellent, timeless and clean. Other than boot squeak developing in the right boot and some of the welt stitches being a little close to the edge of the sole they are built beautifully!
I would not wear a 430 lug sole again. they are very hard compound and hold enough mud to track inside the job site office. they require being sprayed down thoroughly to get the mud out of the small lugs. Standing on concrete slabs over 10+ hours you start to feel the rigidity of the rubber and it does become uncomfortable.
this is my fourth boot with a logger heel and i love it. I walk very heel heavy and it helps me move more of my weight onto my feet evenly without noticing it. it provides a longer period of comfortable wear to me.
Lace to toe boots have always been on my radar and i enjoyed every day with these boots. going forward i will be replacing the 430 sole with a honey vibram 100 lug and re waxing the outside so they'll look just like new. These are my first pair of nicks and i wouldn't hesitate to try another model from their line up. they are very well made and nicks is on the forefront when it comes to trying new leathers and boot styles.
