Tahura
I wanted a boot that reflected richness and functionality. The idea was to have a tough but elegant riding boot for the motorcycle. Tahura made an additional shifter pad to go with the boot, but I got them too late for the riding season. Thus they became my daily "non work boots". I did wear them to work occassionally. I work as a shop teacher and cobbler so having bespoke boots is a real treat and I received many compliments on their looks and design.
I sent in tracings and measurements of my feet. When you wear a 13.5D left and a 13 E right, its imperative that they get it correct so there was a lot of back and forth before the build commenced.
Tahura maker is very thorough and suggested the materials based on my needs. Production time was 4 months from payment. They know their craft and customer service is great!!
These were worn daily after work and exclusively on weekends through driving, walking, shoveling snow, shopping, walking the dogs and other activities. They did see a few work days too.
Tahura reccommended the nemesis leather when I stated I wanted brown leather with character for my riding boots. I was worried about my shifter scratching them and ordered a shifter pad to protect the left toe. The nemesis leather is surprisingly tougher than it appears. As I got the boots just as the first fall snows came, riding was done for the season, i entered them in the dome so they became my afterwork and weekend boots. The nemesis does patina, but not in a way that shows scuffs and dirt. The color deepened and intesified, but did not get darker. Instead, the boots lost their bright shine and the glaze faded in time. They did not wrinkle as much as i thought the leather would, but formed some beautiful ankle shapes. The break in took a few long days of wear during indoor/outdoor activities. They have shaped to my feet and are my go-to boots for smart casual and casual dress. I've even worn them with a 3pc tweed brown suit. They are comfortable and as I opted for a single thicker midsole, they move easily without feeling clunky. I brushed them weekly with a boar brush and applied neutral polish twice in five months to keep them shedding moisture during the winter.
So I believe these boots to be made on a hornady last as they have more of a tapered toe than a 55 by comparison. I wear a 13.5D left and a 13E right boot but size a 13D brannock almost perfectly. The boots came with a padded sockliner. I had room for my arch supports as I have higher than average arches. The toe box is a bit narrow in the hornady(like and almond toe cowboy boot). I wear mid weight socks and the boot is fully lined in calf. Its a very comfy all day boot that gives great support when laced up properly.
These boots are incredibly well made. Stitching on welts and uppers is perfect. The finishing is a work of art. I had a pull loop break on me one day, but that was caused by not unlacing far enough before they had broken in. I was able to repair this without issue. Tahura finishing is impeccable.
These are the best for comfort and durability and they wear hard without making a sound.
Tahura has made another pair for me since this pair that are taller, have inside zippers and a built in shifter pad for riding. I got them during the winter and riding starts soon. I opted for local brown pull up. Tahura is thorough, thoughtful and open to working with customers. Be sure to get every measurement they ask for. You will not be dissapointed.
