Field Boot
Grant Stone
I wanted to try a roughout leather this time and I had my eye on the Field boots for a while. I wore them everyday, and boy this leather is tough stuff! I took them hiking to Petti Jean Mountain, I wore them at work the whole time, and did all my yard work in them. They were exposed to torrential downpours, snow and ice and mud quite often. These boots were very comfortable no matter the conditions. That leather is great for using in any conditions! In hindsight, the only thing I would have changed is I wish I had used kilties with them to fill up some of the volume. They fit good but we're a little roomy for my taste so I just wore thick socks the whole time. Besides that, they were awesome!
When I was looking at the boots on the Grant Stone web site, they recommended to size down half the normal Brannock size you wear. I wear a size 9D on the Brannock, so I purchased size 8 1/2D per their sizing instructions.
I purchased these online with Grant Stone. They are easy to use and very fast shipping!
I used these boots for everything I've done the past 6 months except wearing them in the gym lol. I wore them on hikes, did hardwork in them and walked my dog every day in them. Rain, snow and ice, mud...it didn't even phase these things! This leather can take a beating that's for sure. Grant Stone made a real tough and comfortable boot with these! I'm constantly standing and walking on blacktop and the wedge soles held up great and were at home on that surface. I can't recommend these enough! I work at a dealership as an inventory manager and I'm always outside and on the move and they never failed me.
This leather is great! The Earth color is dark and goes with pretty much anything so that's nice. Waxy Commander is neat stuff! Very durable and easy to clean. I only gave them a good brushing once per month, that's it! That's all they needed. Highly water resistant, and resilient leather. Doesn't show scratches much and if they do, you can usually rub or brush them out. Took about two weeks before they started molding to my feet and feeling comfortable. A month in and they were perfect!
The Floyd last is a roomy last, especially in the toe box. Great for when your feet get warm and start to swell. However, if you have narrow feet I'd recommend either sizing down a full size from your Brannock or sizing down 1/2 a size and using kilties with them. This is a comfortable last and no hot spots at all. I went down 1/2 a size and just wore thick socks. Wish I used kilties though, I won't lie.
These boots are tanks! They can take a beating that's for sure. Grant Stone makes a great quality boot. Design and finish was perfect. No complaints at all as far as construction goes! Solid. No loose threads and the hardware choice was fitting for this style of boot.
The soles one the Field boots were great! Comfortable on any terrain, good traction no matter if you're wearing them on concrete, blacktop, outdoors in the dirt and mud or hiking in them. I never had any issues with them at all. Only thing I should caution is, they are a softer compound so they will wear quicker than a Vibram sole, but that's to be expected.
Grant Stone makes the Brass boot as well and that is one of their most popular styles. I own a pair in Dune CXL and love them. But these Fields boots are more comfortable to me and I prefer them. They look good dressed up or down belive it or not. Last piece of advice with these, buy thicker laces! They come with thin, flat laces and mine broke after first month. Remember to size down a full size from Brannock, as these are a very roomy last or just a half size down and use kilties. That's my recommendation after my experience with the Floyd last. All that being said, I highly and most definitely recommend! Grant Stone makes a wonderful product, especially the quality you get for the price you pay! One of the best values of there!
