I work at a nuclear power plant and need a boot makeup like this.
I have PNW boot so I know to follow the sizing guide on the web site. The sizing is perfect. I used my Brannock size and sized down one half size.
The ordering was very easy. I ordered through the Truman web site. I was worried about delivery in time for the Thunderdome start date. I ordered the boots on August 28 and received them on September 13. I was amazed I had put in and order at Nick’s but realized they wouldn’t make it in time so I was scrambling for a pair of boots for the contest.
The Life and Times of my Truman’s Coach Ramblers: I work as an Authorized Nuclear Inservice Inspector at a Nuclear Power Plant. I live in Florida and work in Texas so I spend 2 week a month on the road working in Texas. I oversee the inspection program at the plant so I am checking on the examiner’s in the field who are conducting the nondestructive testing and reviewing their examination reports in the office. I walk a number of miles a week on concrete floors and spend a lot of time in my office. I also hike the Hill Country of Texas when I am off on weekends.
The Life and Times of a Pair of Coach Ramblers: Breaking in of my Coach Ramblers was very simple I just had to lace them loosely for a week and then start tightening the lace’s a little at a time. The leather has faired well, one mishap working I stubbed my poor boot toe on something sharp oh no. I thought I had ruined my boot. I repaired the boot with CA glue, it worked but left a scar on the toe of my left boot (we all get scars with age). I knew from the start that Coach Rambler was going to be a hard leather to get a good patina on so I started brushing them nightly as I sat in a hotel room with nothing to do but watch TV. After a while I noticed that the nap was waring off of the toe and getting smoother. As rainy season came in I started using some bees wax to protect the mid sole and toe of the boots this along with daily brushing really brought the highlights out in the leather. In late January my boots were looking dry so I did a Back 4 treatment I was worried that I had ruined the boots (they turned red) I am glad this evened out in a couple of weeks. I have struggled with the photography I don’t know much about photography. I am the sort that just takes pictures and try not to cut the heads off of the people in the picture. Using my iPhone 12 I started snapping shots not understanding the leather so I shot my submission shot indoors with just living room lamps for light. the pictures were not very good at one point I kept noticing how much better the leather looked in the sunlight the colors really popped so I stared experimenting with bright sunlight photos and wow the color finally stared to look in the pictures like I was seeing on my feet. Last week I was taking some pictures in the sunshine for the final shots and I posted a couple on discord and asked for advice Arron Huber suggested that I shot on an overcast day to cut out the shine spot’s I followed his advice and I think I have captured the boot with all of the patina showing up. I hope I did well on my first Thunderdome with a notorious hard leather to get patina on.
The Life and Times of my Truman’s Coach Ramblers: The 79 last works great with my foot, breaking was simple about 2 weeks and they were laced up tight and I could wear them all day long. The support is good but I am hard on boots being 6’4” and 250lb’s I can crush the arch in a boot I have added a set of Nick’s arch supports in the last month. I may be lucky but the toe box fits perfect as well as the heel. The Trumans have held up well, I think my Nick’s on 55 last will work better with my high arch’s. I wear these boots every day to work and play in.
Design and Construction: I feel that Truman’s have done a good job with the design of the 79 last I like the almond shape in the toe box fits me well and looks great. The construction seems flawless all of the stitching is even and straight and they have held up well to the pounding a 250 lb guy can give them. I do an even amount of walking office work and some hiking in rocky enviroment.
Commando Sole: My soles have faired well for this 6 month journey. I have been diligent in caring for the midsole and welt with bees wax this has also helped the patina process. The durability of the commando sole is amazing I have very little signs of wear.
