Red Wing Shoes
I've always heard great things about Hawthorne Muleskinner leather but never owned a pair. I thought, why not go ahead and give them a shot for the dome? As far as the last, I've always loved Iron Rangers but wanted to try something different with them. I had Unsung relast them and took out the toe stiffener. I'm super happy with the results.
I had these made to order. Unsung took my measurements and made the last to spec. They're my best-fitting pair of boots.
The process was seamless. I had the boots sent directly to Unsung. They were great to work with. It took about two months for them to finish the boots.
I've worn these boots pretty much every day since the dome began. They've seen plenty of mountain trails, hiked a few river banks, and were my best friends when it came to playing disc golf...despite what my friends might have said. These boots were with me when I visited my family in Ohio and were on my feet while editing hundreds of hours of audio for the Shoecast. I even took these boots skateboarding and landed a sketchy kickflip on them. They've been great. I've tried to wear them hard but also take care of them.
I have nothing but good things to say about the leather. They've darkened up quite a bit over the last months, going from grey to amber. The burnishing looks excellent, especially on the vamps and the toes.
The fit on these boots is great.
The finishing is top notch. Unsung did a fantastic job on the relast.
The vibram has been great. I do wish it had a bit more traction. The soles can be a bit slick on wet surfaces. But overall they've held up well.
Overall, I'm thrilled with my boots. It's been great competing in my second dome. I love these boots and look forward to wearing them for years!
