I was looking for a new pair of boots and was wanting veg tanned leather. Nick's had a DomePro sale that they offered a discount and a very short lead time to meet the Thunder Dome start date. The timing worked out perfectly. I've used these boots for work which incudes office time as well as visiting construction sites. They have also been used around the home for yard work and a bathroom renovation. I wear them on walks, hikes and everything in-between.
I have other pairs of Nick's with the HNW last. When I first purchased a pair I utilized their sizing guide then went into the Nick's store and got sized by the friendly staff. No modifications were made to the last.
These boots were purchased online through a Nick's sale for the Thunder Dome.
I have worn these boots around 5 to 6 days per week throughout the Dome. I have an office job, but often go to construction sites. These have also been utilized on hikes, performed yard work, car and tractor maintenance, and a master bath renovation.
The leather has held up great even in our wet pacific northwest weather throughout the winter months. The leather darkened over time but not a significant amount. I love how they have changed through the process. The break-in took about a week and a half and no major issues. I brushed the boots almost daily and conditioned with Smiths every 4 to 6 weeks.
The HNW last seems to work well for me as I don't have high arches. I am an 11D Brannock, and per Nicks I went a half size down and that was perfect. The toe box is nice and open so my toes are not squeezed and the heel has no slip. I haven't had any blisters with these boots like I have had with others, so I've been pleased!!
These boots are tough and durable. Maybe more than I needed initially, but now I'm used to it now and love it. The construction seems top notch for a PNW boot.
It's been a great sole for comfort, duability and traction, but I live in quite a muddy environment in the winter months. Because of this I used an air compressor almost daily as to not track mud into the house. I may consider a less aggressive sole for the Dome next year.
I would say if you are looking for a tough and rugged pair of boots Nick's is a great option. They also look great!!
