My birthday is October 1st and my husband surprised me with an early birthday present on September 30th. Staring at two boxes of boots, one for me and one for him, left me somewhat confused. Hmmm… ok, I thought. He got himself a present for my birthday? The boots were beautiful and also very different from anything I’ve ever had. Cute, I thought. They are Duckfeet boots in honor of our new duck. Our duck used to be a pair of ducks that our daughters picked out excitedly and raised for four weeks in their house in an HOA, hiding them until they could bring them down and surprise us. Before we could build a pen a fox killed one, sadly.
Back to my gift, he explained the stitch down contest to me and said he would like to enter. He knows how I traded in my high heels and left the corporate world to work from home as we also build our portfolio of properties and was wondering if I’d like to enter the contest with him.
He has a passion for boots. He owns some of the most beautiful boots and hoped we might share in that together. He also knows I am not one to enter contests so he was very subtle in his presentation but hoped I would join him. Since all the boots I currently own are some old cowboy boots from my rodeo days and some muck boots, I was in need of everyday boots anyway. I definitely needed some to wear for working on our remodels and acreage as well as the occasional hikes that I love and he hates. As part of my birthday present to break in our new boots he scheduled a hike for October 1st (my birthday) which he also explained was the beginning of the contest. As I said, I’ve not been one to enter contests in the past, but after he showed me the patina app and given his explanation of the contest I could really see his passion and the beauty in the boots he was showing me. I instantly became hooked. I never appreciated my old boots so much. I cherished my old saddle, my chaps, and all my tack but I realized I betrayed my boots! I love seeing all the entries.
